Overview
Hadestown is a powerful and imaginative musical that reimagines the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through a modern lens. Originating as a concept album by Anaïs Mitchell, the story unfolds in a Depression-era, post-apocalyptic world where love, hope, and resilience are tested against hardship and fate. Directed by Rachel Chavkin, the production blends haunting folk melodies with blues and jazz influences to create a distinctive, atmospheric score. Since its Broadway premiere, Hadestown has captivated audiences worldwide with its poetic storytelling and bold visual style. Celebrated for its originality and emotional depth, the musical has earned multiple Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score
