The tour begins with a 25-minute drive from Evora to the path leading to the Menir of Almendres. Reaching the Menir requires a 5 to 10-minute walk along a path that is in poor condition, which may be difficult for guests with limited mobility. After exploring the Menir, the tour continues by van through cork tree landscapes to the Cromlech of Almendres, often called the Stonehenge of Portugal. Due to poor road conditions and possible road closures, the group might have to park and walk around 25 minutes (1.25 kilometers) to reach the Cromlech. At the site, the archaeologist guides will explain the Neolithic history and theories related to the monument. Following the visit, the group returns to the van and slowly exits the Almendres property. There is a stop at the Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres gift shop, when open, allowing some free time to browse. The tour concludes with a return drive to Evora, where drop-off times range from 12:00 to 13:00 for morning tours, and from 17:00 to 18:00 for afternoon tours. Entrance fees to all monuments and guided tours at each site are included. This tour requires moderate fitness and involves about one hour of walking outdoors on uneven terrain.
Cromeleque dos Almendres
From Evora, the tour starts with a 25-minute drive to the path leading to the Menir of Almendres. A 5 to 10-minute walk follows along a path in poor condition to reach this solitary stone; those with reduced mobility might not be able to access it. The drive then continues through cork trees within the Almendres property to the Cromlech of Almendres. Due to poor road conditions and occasional closures by the Municipality of Evora, the van may need to be parked and the group walks about 25 minutes (1.25 kilometers or 0.77 miles) to the Cromlech. At the site, archaeologists discuss the Neolithic period and present theories related to the monument.
