by NOLA Ghost Riders
This two-hour walking tour in New Orleans covers haunted, ghost, and paranormal sites in the French Quarter. The tour begins at the Lalaurie Mansion, where the guide explains nineteenth-century stories of abuse and murder linked to its owner. Next, the group visits the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, highlighting Louis J. Dufilho, Jr., America’s first licensed pharmacist, and his contributions in 1816. The guide then discusses vampire folklore associated with Louisiana, describing their supposed traits and legends. The tour continues to the Gardette-LePretre House, also called The Sultan’s House, a 183-year-old building known for its sidewalk-level windows and cast-iron balconies, as well as its history involving a sultan, a stolen harem, and mass murder. After that, the group stops at Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre, a location reportedly haunted by several spirits, including Union soldiers, a theater manager, a nun, and an actress, with paranormal activity such as doors opening and bottles moving. The final stop is a French Quarter restaurant that once served as a slave holding facility and was partially destroyed in the 1788 Great New Orleans Fire. The owner, Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan, restored the building in the early 1800s but later lost it in a poker game and died by suicide on the second floor. The entire tour is led by an English-speaking guide. Guests should dress in smart casual attire. Gratuities are not included.
