Overview

This two-hour small-group walking tour of Herculaneum is led by a licensed archaeologist. The tour begins at the Ticket Office of the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum, accessible by car or a short walk from the Circumvesuviana train station. Visitors explore key sites of this ancient Roman city that was buried in 79 AD, including the waterfront area where over 300 remains were found, the Samnite House, and the thermal baths. The guide also visits the Temple of the Augustales, the forum, the House of Neptune and Amphitrite, the Gymnasium, and the House of the Wooden Partition among others. The tour highlights the preservation of carbonized wood and detailed mosaics and paintings that survived the volcanic destruction better than those in Pompeii. The experience provides detailed archaeological insights into the buildings and artifacts of the city. Included in the tour are entrance fees, a small group size with a maximum of 20 participants, use of headsets, and full guidance and assistance from the archaeologist. Meals, drinks, and private transportation are not included.
