The museum displays precious materials such as relics of atomic bomb victims, photographs, models illustrating the disaster of the explosion, and video testimonies of atomic bomb victims. Flame of Peace The Flame of Peace, located in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, was lit in 1964 to mourn the victims of the atomic bombing and to pray for the abolition of nuclear weapons and lasting world peace. It continues to burn to this day, in accordance with the vow "to keep the flame burning until nuclear weapons disappear." Miyajima—Itsukushima Shrine As one of Japan's representative shrines, Itsukushima Shrine has a long history, said to have been founded in the first year of Empress Suiko's reign (593). In the late Heian period, Taira no Kiyomori's deep faith led to the establishment of its current shrine buildings. The most famous feature of Itsukushima Shrine is its shrine buildings constructed over the sea. When the tide rises, the entire shrine appears to float on the sea, a mysterious sight that attracts countless visitors. Deer of Miyajima The entire island of Miyajima belongs to the precincts of Itsukushima Shrine, and the deer on the island are regarded as sacred animals and are highly valued. Approximately 500 deer roam freely on the island, and their gentle demeanor often makes visitors feel a sense of familiarity.
