by Warsaw UnDiscovered
The tour highlights Warsaw's Jewish heritage by visiting key sites connected to the largest Jewish community in Europe before World War II and their experiences during the Holocaust. It lasts about three hours and covers around 4.5 to 5 kilometers on foot. The walk starts at Sienna 53, where a brief introduction takes place. Then the group visits the Nozyk Synagogue, the only synagogue in Warsaw that survived the war and still stands today. Next, participants see a remaining section of the Warsaw Ghetto wall. The longest part of the tour explores the former Warsaw Ghetto area, including the Jewish Ghetto memorial, the courthouse on Solidarności Street, the Muranów district where Ringelblum's archive was found, the Church of St. Augustine, the Heroes of the Jewish Ghetto memorial, and Miła 18, also known as Anielewicz's Bunker. Afterwards, the tour visits Laweczka Jana Karskiego, which features several monuments commemorating the Jewish resistance within the ghetto. The final stop is Umschlagplatz, the site from which approximately 300,000 Jews were sent to the Treblinka extermination camp. Included with the tour are a detailed information pack about Warsaw (including FAQs and useful links), visual aids, and recommendations for additional places to visit as well as dining and drinking options. Entrance fees to any sites are not included. This walking tour is not recommended for people who have difficulties walking long distances.
