Other Reminders Updated on September 18, 2026: Mount Tokachi is currently at eruption alert level 3, with an official restricted area within approximately 3 kilometers of the crater. The Japanese government's announcement temporarily states that this does not significantly affect daily life or tourism in Biei and Furano. The Biei Town Office explicitly stated: 1) The restricted area is mainly within approximately 3 kilometers of the crater. 2) It does not target the Shirogane area or residential areas. Christmas Tree, Takushinkan, Blue Pond, and Shirahige Falls, which are part of the itinerary, are all in the Shirogane area. 3) Shirogane Onsen is currently operating normally, and daily life and tourism can proceed as usual. 4) However, volcanic ash and small ejecta may still occur downwind, so it is necessary to pay attention to the latest news. The Nakafurano Tourism Association also stated that the current restrictions will not endanger Nakafurano Town, and daily life has not been affected. The Ministry of the Environment reminds that the areas truly requiring vigilance are within approximately 3 kilometers of the crater, the mountain entry areas, and downwind directions during an eruption.
