Overview

This full-day tour in Tasmania lasts about eight hours and begins with a 9:00am departure from Triabunna. The cruise travels first to Ile Des Phoques, also known as the Island of Seals. On the way, passengers may see albatross, dolphins, Australian fur seals, and whales, depending on the season. The boat passes panoramic views of Maria Island and the Freycinet Peninsula. At Ile Des Phoques, there is a one-hour stop to observe Australian fur seals recovering from near extinction and to visit the giant granite Rainbow Caves by boat. Morning tea, coffee, and cakes are served during this stop. Afterward, the cruise continues to Maria Island, arriving for a two-hour lunch and walk. Lunch is served on board beside a white sandy beach and includes a large salad bowl with options such as chicken breast in pesto aioli, smoked salmon, roast beef, leg ham, or vegetarian and vegan choices. Guests may add a homemade bacon and cheese or pumpkin and feta quiche and can choose a half salad portion. Complimentary drinks include tea, coffee, juice, soft drinks, local wines (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc), and Tasmanian premium lager. Following lunch, the boat docks at the jetty for a two-hour guided walk around the Darlington convict settlement. The walk covers the preserved convict buildings and local history, with opportunities to see resident wombats and kangaroos. Guests who prefer not to join the walk can relax on the beach or swim and snorkel in the marine reserve waters. If weather conditions prevent visiting Ile Des Phoques, the cruise will instead circumnavigate Maria Island. Shuttle bus transfers are available from Hobart to Triabunna, taking about one hour and fifteen minutes along the Tasman Highway, with a possible stop in Richmond. The tour operates with a maximum of 28 people to ensure comfort and includes live commentary by professional marine scientists. The vessel has onboard toilets that also serve as change rooms for swimmers, and seasickness aids and waterproof clothing are available if needed. The tour includes snacks, lunch, alcoholic beverages, tea, and coffee. The cruise returns to Triabunna around 4:30pm.
