Overview

The tour begins with a walk to the German Fountain in Sultanahmet Square, a neo-Byzantine monument built in 1901 with a golden mosaic dome. Next, the group spends time in Sultanahmet Square, the historic center of Istanbul, which was once the Hippodrome of Constantinople and is now surrounded by landmarks like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and the German Fountain. The guide then leads visitors to the Blue Mosque, a 17th-century mosque known for its six minarets, large dome, and blue İznik tiles. Afterward, the tour continues to Hagia Sophia, originally a Byzantine cathedral completed in 537, later converted to an Ottoman mosque, then a museum, and currently an active mosque. Visitors see its large dome and mosaics while learning about its history. If selected, the group also visits the Basilica Cistern, an underground water storage from the 6th century with marble columns and Medusa head bases. The entire walking tour lasts about three hours and includes a licensed guide. Priority admission tickets to Hagia Sophia and, if chosen, to the Basilica Cistern are provided. The tour is conducted in small groups to allow for more interaction. Food, drinks, and hotel transfers are not included.
