Overview

The Istanbul Culinary Walking Tour: Local Hotspots and Gourmet Street Foods lasts about three and a half hours and covers around two kilometers on mostly flat terrain, with some narrow and uneven streets that are not wheelchair accessible. The tour begins on the Karaköy side of the Galata Bridge, where the guide meets the group near the Golden Horn. From there, the group walks through the modern Beyoglu district, focusing on the busy Istiklal Street and its food markets, known as local culinary hotspots. Early in the tour, participants are served traditional Turkish tea in tulip-shaped glasses. Along the route, the group tastes a variety of gourmet street foods including Gözleme, a hand-rolled stuffed flatbread; Çiğ Köfte, a spicy bulgur dish; Mantı, small dumplings with garlic yogurt; Tantuni, a seasoned meat wrap; and a Dürüm Kebab filled with döner meat. The food tastings take place at well-known local venues along Istiklal Street. The tasting ends with Baklava, a sweet pastry made of layered filo and nuts. Near the end of the walk, participants sample a local alcoholic drink as enjoyed by residents. The tour includes transport by funicular between some points. Tea and coffee are available during the walk. The group size is kept small to allow for a more personal experience. Vegetarian alternatives can be requested in advance, but vegan and gluten-free options are not available. Hotel pickup, drop-off, and gratuities are not included.
