Overview

The Joshua Tree Open Air Hummer Adventure with Shuttle from Palm Springs begins with an 8:30 am departure from the Palm Springs Art Museum. Guests first take an air-conditioned shuttle to Yucca Valley, where the open-air Hummer portion of the tour starts. Alternatively, guests can join the tour directly at the Yucca Valley Welcome Center to skip the shuttle and shorten the total time. The full tour lasts about five hours when including the shuttle and three to five hours depending on the chosen departure point. The tour travels through Joshua Tree National Park in a military-style H1 Hummer with a certified National Park guide. The first stop is Keys Point, a high overlook providing views of the valley below and extending to Mexico. Next, the group visits Keys View, where the desert landscape and the San Andreas Fault can be seen across hundreds of miles. Two optional walks are offered: a one-mile trail around Barker Dam featuring monzogranite rock formations and desert plants, guided by a wilderness expert knowledgeable in local geology and Native American history; and a half-mile loop at Cap Rock Trail, known for its balanced rock formations and popular photography spots. Bottled water and snacks are included. The open-air Hummer tour is not available from December to February due to cold temperatures at higher elevations; during these months, a heated van tour is provided instead. Participants should wear layered clothing and comfortable closed-toe shoes. Each Hummer holds a maximum of nine people.
