This whale watching boat tour in Juneau lasts about 3 hours and 45 minutes. A naturalist guide is on board to provide information during the trip. The tour takes place in Auke Bay, where guests can watch humpback whales against the backdrop of Alaskan mountains. Other wildlife that may be seen includes sea lions, harbor seals, porpoises, bald eagles, bears, deer, and various birds. On clear days, the Mendenhall Glacier is visible from the boat. Transportation is included, and the operator offers a worry-free shore excursion guarantee. Gratuities and souvenirs are not included.
Pier to Auke Bay Transfer
The whale watching trip starts with a narrated ride from the pier to Auke Bay. There, the captain and onboard naturalist welcome passengers aboard the North Star, a 48-passenger jet boat built specifically for Juneau whale watching, featuring large windows and an outdoor viewing deck. On clear days, the Mendenhall Glacier can be seen as the boat leaves the dock. Juneau hosts about 65 humpback whales each season feeding in nutrient-rich waters, and the captain is skilled at finding them. Whale sightings are guaranteed; if no whales are seen, a refund of $100 ($50 for children) is provided. The captain announces whale sightings, but often guests first notice by the sounds of excitement as a humpback breaches.
