Overview

This three-hour walking tour covers nine acres of Princeville Botanical Gardens on Kauai. Participants start by exploring the upper terraces and plant varieties in Waimea Valley, including exotic flowers, medicinal plants, and honey hives. The tour continues to a small cacao grove at the valley's bottom, where guests taste raw chocolate nibs and learn about cacao cultivation and harvesting. The group then moves to an outdoor chocolate tasting area for a 50-minute session featuring at least five single-origin chocolates from different parts of the world, both north and south of the equator. Alongside the chocolate, seasonal fruit samples and tropical honey from the garden are offered. After the tasting, the walk continues into Anini Creek valley to observe unique plants, varied terrain, and sustainable growing methods. The tour includes walking sticks, umbrellas, bug spray, and a tour host. It is conducted rain or shine and involves uneven terrain with stairs and loose gravel, so moderate mobility and appropriate footwear are necessary. Gratuities are included, while transportation to and from the gardens and hotel transfers are not provided.
