by Discovery K gari Adventures
The tour starts with a hotel pickup in Noosa, followed by a ferry crossing to K'gari (Fraser Island). Travelers ride in a specially equipped 4WD vehicle along Seventy-Five Mile Beach, also known as the island’s sandy highway, where the guide points out coastal scenery and native animals such as dingoes and seabirds. The group stops for about 45 minutes to explore the beach before continuing to Eli Creek. Here, visitors can wade through the largest freshwater creek on the island or relax by the water for 30 minutes. Next, the tour visits the Maheno Shipwreck for a 15-minute stop to view the rusted remains of the SS Maheno and hear about its history. Afterward, the group heads to Lake McKenzie (Boorangoora) for around 90 minutes to swim, relax, and enjoy the freshwater lake. Lunch is provided near the lake and includes options to accommodate dietary needs. In the afternoon, the tour visits Central Station Rainforest for a 30-minute walk along Wanggoolba Creek beneath satinay and brush box trees. This stop covers some of the island’s rainforest environment and logging history, though the visit is tide dependent. A wheelchair-accessible walk is available at Central Station as an alternative to the rainforest walk. The tour includes morning and afternoon tea and returns to Noosa by ferry and vehicle after about 13 hours in total.
