Overview

This 8-day Kokoda Trail History Trek in Papua New Guinea follows the original wartime route from Kokoda to Imita Ridge near Port Moresby, crossing the Owen Stanley Ranges. The trek visits all major World War II battle sites including Kokoda, Deniki, Isurava, Eora Creek, Templeton's Crossing, Brigade Hill, Ioribaiwa Ridge, and Imita Ridge. At each location, participants receive detailed historical presentations about the battles fought there. The trek includes a Dawn Service at the Isurava Memorial, attended by trekkers, PNG guides, and carriers, as a solemn remembrance of the soldiers. The trek is led by a specialist Australian expedition leader who provides battlefield and historical guidance throughout. The total duration is about eight days and includes all meals on the trail, prepared and served by PNG cooks. Pre- and post-trek accommodation in Papua New Guinea with meals is provided, along with all vehicle transfers within the country. A private charter flight between Port Moresby and Kokoda is included. Participants receive a Kokoda Track Authority Trek Permit and a Certificate of Achievement upon completion. Each trekker is supplied with a personal mosquito-proof tent, which is carried, erected, and dismantled by trek guides. Group trekking gear such as safety ropes, machetes, shovels, and tarpaulins is provided, along with emergency communications equipment including a satellite phone and two UHF radios with 24-hour rear link to Port Moresby. The trek also includes visits to the Bomana War Cemetery and covers all campsite fees in villages along the route. If a personal carrier is engaged, a 75-litre backpack is supplied. A group first aid kit and trained first aid support are available throughout the trek.
