Overview

The tour starts with a meeting at the Dnipro metro station or an optional pickup from the participant’s location. It begins with an urbex exploration of Kyiv’s underground tunnels. Participants receive rubber high boots from Soviet military protective gear, gloves, and torches to use during the walk. Depending on the season, the first part involves walking between 1.5 and 3 kilometers through either the city’s underground drainage tunnel system or an underground river. The temperature inside the tunnels remains around 12 °C regardless of outside weather. The guide provides explanations about the history and layout of the tunnels while navigating in complete darkness. This section lasts between one and a half to three hours. After completing the tunnel walk, the tour continues to a deserted Cold War nuclear bunker. Participants enter through a large Soviet-era blast door into an abandoned fallout shelter. The guide leads a roughly one-hour tour inside the bunker, showing civil defense equipment and describing how people prepared for nuclear threats during that period. Transfers between all locations are included. The total duration of the tour is about three hours and fifteen minutes. Participants should wear comfortable clothes they do not mind getting dirty or wet, with pants secured by a belt or bring a belt separately. Large bags are discouraged due to narrow tunnel passages. All necessary protective equipment is provided except for the belt and clothing. Hotel pickup and drop-off are available only if selected as an option.
