Overview

Passengers board the M.S. Dixie II paddle-wheeler at Zephyr Cove Marina, located on a mile-long sandy shore lined with pine trees. The boat is the largest cruising vessel on Lake Tahoe. The cruise lasts about 2.25 hours and travels across Lake Tahoe’s blue waters to Emerald Bay State Park on the lake’s west shore. The route passes by the rugged shoreline and blue-green water of Emerald Bay. Guests can choose outdoor seating for fresh air and panoramic views or climate-controlled indoor seating for comfort. An audio guide provides information about how Emerald Bay was formed and describes Fannette Island, the only island in Lake Tahoe. This granite island rises 150 feet above the water and has had several names over the past century before settling on Fannette. The cruise also passes Vikingsholm Castle, a stone mansion on the shore of Emerald Bay modeled after an 800 A.D. Scandinavian castle and considered a fine example of Scandinavian architecture. Onboard restrooms are available. Lunch and drinks can be purchased during the cruise. Passengers are advised to arrive at the dock 30 minutes before departure for check-in. A complimentary shuttle service is available but requires additional time for pickup and drop-off according to the schedule.
