Overview

This guided river cruise aboard a 1947 traditional Lisbon boat offers views of the city’s historic landmarks from the Tagus River. The boat, registered with the National Navy Museum, features colorful hand-painted flowers and provides a unique way to see Lisbon from the water. The tour lasts about 1 hour and 45 minutes and includes live commentary from the guide. During the cruise, the boat passes by Praça do Comércio, a large square rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake as part of Lisbon’s Pombaline Downtown. The route continues past São Jorge Castle, Alfama, the National Pantheon, Santa Apolónia Station, Cacilhas, the Christ the King statue, the 25th of April Bridge, Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, MAAT, and the Ajuda Palace. Each stop is visible from the river, allowing for a comprehensive view of Lisbon’s waterfront and its historic sites. The cruise does not include transportation to or from the departure point, food or drinks, or hotel pickup and drop-off. Gratuities are also not covered. Passengers should arrive 15 minutes before departure and wear comfortable clothing. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

1

Praca do Comercio

Praça do Comércio is a large square in Lisbon facing the Tagus River. It is also known as Terreiro do Paço because it was the site of the Royal Ribeira Palace before the 1755 earthquake destroyed it. The square was rebuilt as part of the Pombaline Downtown under the direction of the Marquis of Pombal during the reign of King Dom José I.

2

Torre de Belem

Belém Tower, or the Tower of Saint Vincent, is a 16th-century fortification in Lisbon. It served as a ceremonial gateway and embarkation point for Portuguese explorers. Built from lioz limestone, the structure includes a bastion and a four-storey tower measuring 30 metres (98.4 ft) tall, featuring Portuguese Manueline style with other architectural influences.
