Overview

This full-day bus tour from Paris visits three major châteaux in the Loire Valley: Chenonceau, Chambord, and Amboise. The trip begins with a drive past the 1,000-year-old Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire and its flower garden along the Loire River, where the guide will share its history and may stop for photos if time allows. At Château de Chambord, the largest castle in the valley, visitors spend about an hour exploring its numerous spires and the famous double helix staircase, with commentary from the guide. Next, the group moves to Château de Chenonceau, known as the Ladies’ Château for the women who shaped it. After a guided introduction to its history and why it spans the river, there is an hour to explore the interior and gardens independently. The tour continues to Château Royal d'Amboise, one of France’s oldest royal castles. From this hilltop location, visitors enjoy views over the Loire River and the medieval town below. After learning about its history from the guide, there is time to walk the castle ramparts and take photos. Nearby, guests visit Leonardo da Vinci’s tomb and the house where he spent his last years serving the French king; this stop is not always accessible. In Amboise town, there is an hour of free time for lunch at local restaurants and bakeries (not included). Before leaving, the guide brings the group to a small wine shop at Place Michel Debre, where a tasting of three Loire Valley wines is offered. The transportation is by air-conditioned luxury van, and the tour includes entrance tickets to all three castles, the driver/guide, wine tasting, fuel, parking, and tolls. The group size is small to allow for a more personal experience.
