Overview

Luxor features extensive ancient sites on both sides of the Nile River. This 8-hour day tour covers major landmarks on the east and west banks of the Nile, starting with hotel pickup. The tour begins with a visit to the Valley of the Kings, where several pharaohs including Tutmosis I, Tutmosis III, Tutankhamun, Ramses VI, Merenptah, and Amenhotep II were buried. After spending about two hours exploring the tombs, the group moves on to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, constructed during the 18th Dynasty by Egypt’s only ruling female pharaoh, who reigned from approximately 1490 to 1469 B.C. Next, the tour passes the Colossi of Memnon, two large stone statues that once guarded the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III. Then the group crosses to the east bank for lunch at a local restaurant serving Egyptian dishes; drinks are not included. Following lunch, the tour visits the Karnak Temple, dedicated to the god Amon, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu, considered one of the largest religious complexes in Egypt. The final stops include the Luxor Temple, built initially by Amenhotep III in the New Kingdom and completed by Ramses II of the 19th Dynasty. The tour guide provides commentary throughout, and all transfers use a private air-conditioned vehicle. After the visit to Luxor Temple, the group is returned to their hotel.
