Overview

This 7 to 8-hour tour begins with a 1 hour and 30 minute drive from a Johannesburg tourist hotel, departing at 9:30 AM. The first stop is the Maropeng Cradle of Humankind Museum, located within the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. Visitors enter through a large burial mound called the Tumulus, which serves as the entrance to the museum. The museum features 2,500 square meters of exhibits that explain the development of humans and their ancestors over millions of years. Included in the museum experience is an underground boat ride through part of the exhibition. After spending time at the museum, the tour continues to the Sterkfontein Caves, a significant fossil site within the Cradle of Humankind. The caves are open from Tuesday through Sunday and are known for important fossil discoveries such as Mrs Ples and Little Foot, as well as thousands of other hominid fossils. The tour includes air-conditioned transport, all entrance fees, taxes, and a bottle of water. Food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, are not included. A casual dress code is recommended for this tour.
