Matera is known for its distinctive landscapes and traditional agriculture. This cooking class takes place on a farm surrounded by over 2,000 olive trees and about 300 orange trees, plus organic fruit and vegetable gardens growing eggplants, zucchini, tomatoes, artichokes, chicory, lemons, cherries, and pomegranates. The farm’s building is made with traditional local materials. The tour lasts about four hours and begins with a guided walk around the farm. Guests learn about the production of extra virgin olive oil from the farm's own trees and can taste fresh fruit directly from the trees. After the farm tour, the class moves to the professional kitchen where Silvia, who has over 20 years of experience learning from her mother, leads the cooking session. Participants learn how to make fresh pasta the traditional way, prepare a typical local pasta sauce, and cook two traditional dishes from Matera. The session includes lunch made from the dishes prepared during the class.
