Overview

This small-group day trip from Barcelona takes you to three medieval villages in Catalonia over about 10 and a half hours by bus. You start near the Palace of Catalan Music at 8:15am with a meeting and briefing before leaving the city at 8:30am. On the way to Besalú, your guide will share a brief history of Barcelona during the 90-minute drive. At Besalú, you spend two hours walking through the village’s medieval streets. Highlights include the 12th-century Romanesque bridge, the 11th-century Monastery of St. Pere, and the 12th-century Jewish Baths (Mikveh). Afterward, the bus passes Castellfollit de la Roca, a small town perched on a basalt cliff with about 1,000 residents. Next is Rupit, where you have around two and a half hours to explore. Walk cobblestone streets lined with 16th-century houses, cross the wooden hanging bridge, and visit the Baroque Church of Sant Miquel. Lunch is on your own at local restaurants, with your guide available to assist or reserve a table. You can also see the ruins of Rupit's castle on a rocky peak or picnic outdoors. Then the tour continues with a scenic drive to Tavertet. In Tavertet, enjoy a short walk to sandstone cliffs overlooking Pantà de Sau lake and visit the 11th-century Romanesque Church of Sant Cristòfol. After this stop, you return to Barcelona, passing views of forests and the El Montseny natural park, arriving around 6:45pm. The guide helps with directions for taxis, the metro, or restaurant suggestions. Air conditioning is provided on the bus, and a local English-speaking guide leads the tour.
