Overview

This six-hour Memphis Discovery Tour combines city sightseeing with a two-hour cruise on the Mississippi River aboard the Memphis Riverboat. The tour begins with a bus drive through downtown Memphis, stopping first at Beale Street for five minutes to learn about its blues bars and musical history. Next is a five-minute stop at Handy Park, where the story of W.C. Handy and the birth of the blues is presented. The route continues past AutoZone Park, home to the Memphis Redbirds baseball and 901 FC soccer teams, and then through the neighborhood where Elvis Presley lived as a teenager. The tour also passes a major medical research hospital before arriving at the Victorian Village Historic District, where guests spend ten minutes viewing Victorian-era mansions known as "Millionaire's Row." Additional stops include the Magevney House, the oldest home in Memphis; Court Square, the historic city center; the city’s oldest church; and the Cotton Museum at the Memphis Cotton Exchange, which explains the importance of cotton to the local economy. A ten-minute stop is made at the memorial for Martin Luther King Jr. and the 1968 Sanitation Strike. Guests have the option to visit one of three museums: the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel, the Smithsonian’s Rock ’n’ Soul Museum, or the Edge Motor Museum. Those choosing the National Civil Rights Museum receive 1.5 hours inside; others may only access the public area outside. The tour includes a 15-minute barbecue tasting before concluding with the Mississippi River cruise on the Memphis Riverboat. Air conditioning is available on the vehicle, and snacks are provided. Due to vehicle restrictions near the boat dock, guests are dropped off and picked up on Riverside Drive, a short walk from the riverboat.
