Overview

Step into a pivotal moment in art history with Monet to Matisse: Defying Tradition at the Art Gallery of South Australia. This exhibition brings together iconic works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period when artists began to challenge longheld artistic rules and redefine how art could look and feel. Featuring works by Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Berthe Morisot and Henri Matisse, the exhibition traces the shift from Impressionism to early Modernism. Discover how bold use of colour, expressive brushwork and new ways of seeing the world changed the course of art forever. Enjoy a self-guided visit at your own pace and explore these influential masterpieces within one of Australia’s leading cultural institutions, located in the heart of Adelaide
