Overview

This full-day tour lasts between 9 and 13 hours and begins with pickup by a 4WD coach from either Brisbane or the Gold Coast. The group travels to the ferry terminal and boards a 75-minute ferry crossing Moreton Bay, where passengers can watch for dolphins and other marine animals from the deck or inside the cabin. Upon arrival at Moreton Island, the 4WD vehicle drives along the sand to the Tangalooma Wrecks. Here, the guide leads a snorkeling tour among 15 deliberately sunken ships that form a breakwall and support coral reefs with various fish species including trevally, yellowtail, wobbegong, and kingfish. For those who prefer not to snorkel, transparent bodyboards are available to paddle while observing turtles, reef fish, and coral, or guests may relax on the beach. After snorkeling, a picnic lunch of DIY sandwiches or wraps is served on the beach. Then, the guide leads a kayak trip on clear kayaks over the wrecks, allowing guests to see marine life beneath without getting wet. If weather or sea conditions are unsuitable, a 4WD tour around the island replaces the snorkeling and kayaking activities. The afternoon continues with a ride on rough inland tracks to large sand dunes for sandboarding, an activity similar to tobogganing, where speeds can reach up to 30 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour). Time permitting, the group returns to the coast for a swim at Tangalooma Beach before boarding the ferry back to the mainland, arriving in Brisbane or the Gold Coast by evening. The tour includes transfers by shuttle bus from the Brisbane Coach Terminal or Gold Coast, use of life vests and wetsuits free of charge for non-swimmers, jetski assistance for non-swimmers, and all kayaking, snorkeling, and sandboarding equipment. Transport on Moreton Island is provided by 4WD bus. Guests should bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, and a hat. National park and ferry fees must be paid separately on departure.

Moreton Island

The day starts with pickup by a 4WD coach from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, followed by travel to the ferry terminal. The 75-minute ferry ride crosses Moreton Bay, offering views from deck or cabin and chances to spot dolphins and marine life. Upon arrival, the 4WD drives along sandy tracks to the Tangalooma Wrecks, where guests can snorkel among 15 purposely sunk vessels that form a breakwall and host coral and diverse fish species such as trevally, yellowtail, wobbegong, and kingfish. Transparent bodyboards are available for those not snorkeling to paddle and observe turtles and reef fish or relax on the beach. After snorkeling, a picnic lunch is served on the beach. Guests then kayak on transparent kayaks over the wrecks to see fish beneath without getting wet; if conditions prevent this, a 4WD island tour replaces snorkeling and kayaking. The tour continues on rough tracks inland to tall sand dunes for sandboarding, which can reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour). Time permitting, there is a swim at Tangalooma Beach before the ferry returns to the mainland and the tour ends in the evening back in Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
