The highlight of this 8 to 10-hour hiking trip is watching the sunrise from the summit of Mount Batur, an active volcano in Bali. The larger caldera measures 10 by 13 kilometers and contains a caldera lake on its southeast side. The inner caldera, about 7.5 kilometers wide, was formed between 23,670 and 28,500 years ago during a volcanic event called the Bali or Ubud ignimbrite.
