This two-hour walking tour on Murano island in Venice focuses on the island's glassmaking tradition. You will visit active glass factories and the showroom of the oldest glass factory in the world, which has been operating since 1295. The guide will take you off the main tourist paths to see churches with Byzantine-style mosaics from the 12th century and other less-visited parts of the island. The tour includes an optional hands-on lampwork workshop where you can create your own Venetian glass bead using a technique dating back to the 17th century. A local artist leads the workshop and helps you make the bead, which cools in about 15 minutes and can be taken home as a personal souvenir. The tour leader and interpretive guide provide information throughout the visit. Included are the visits to a glass artisan's workshop (lampwork or glass blowing) and the historic glass factory showroom. The lampwork workshop is optional and requires an additional fee paid on site. Gratuities are not included and are left to your discretion.
