Overview

The journey starts just outside Mexican Hat, where you'll first see the iconic view from Forrest Gump’s run. Then, you'll head to Monument Valley and explore its rich history, from the ancient Anasazi to the Navajo tribe, who still call this land home. You'll hike the self-guided Wildcat Trail, and visit the stunning East Mitten Butte, West Mitten Butte, and Merrick Butte, learning about a silver prospector’s ill-fated attempt to steal from the Navajo. At John Ford Point, named after the famous director, you'll discuss films shot here, including The Searchers and 2001: A Space Odyssey. You’ll also see the Three Sisters and learn about Navajo families living without modern amenities. Your tour ends at Camel Butte and Elephant Butte, with a perfect sunrise view at North Window Overlook.
