Overview

This four-hour walking tour in Nuremberg covers the medieval Old Town and the Nazi party rally grounds (Reichsparteitagsgelände). It starts at Nuremberg Central Station where participants meet the guide. The walk continues along the city walls, some of Europe's best-preserved medieval fortifications. Stops include the Handwerkerhof crafts market, the former Customs House called Mauthalle, and the Der Schoene Brunnen fountain with its golden Gothic tower and wishing ring. The tour visits the Hauptmarkt marketplace, the Old Town Hall completed in 1622, the Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg) dating back to around 1050, St. Sebaldus Church - the oldest church in the city - and Albrecht-Dürer-Haus, a museum in the home of the Renaissance artist. There is a 30-minute lunch break at the Hauptmarkt. After lunch, the group travels to the Nazi party rally grounds, including the Luitpoldhain (site of the Luitpold Arena), the former fairgrounds used for the Nuremberg Rallies, and the unfinished Congress Hall. The tour concludes at the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds, a museum focused on the history of the rallies, which visitors may explore further on their own. Public transport and a local English-speaking guide are included.
