Overview

This four-hour bus tour in Baku traces the city's development from the 12th century through the 19th-century oil boom to its modern architecture. The tour starts at the main entrance to the Old City, known as Gosha Gala Tower or Double Gates. The guide provides a brief history of Baku from the Stone Age before leading a one-hour walk through the medieval streets of the Old City, highlighting historical sites. Visitors will see the 12th-century Maiden Tower, an important symbol of Azerbaijan, and the 15th-century Juma Mosque. The tour also includes a visit to the Muhammad Mosque in Siniq Qala, the world’s only Museum of Miniature Books located in the old city, and the 15th-century Palace of the Shirvanshahs, recognized by UNESCO. Afterward, the Ismailiyya Palace on Istiglaliyyat Street is viewed, followed by stops at Fountain Square and Philharmonic Fountain Park, established in 1830. The tour continues to Martyrs' Lane (Upland Park), where the Baku Funicular offers panoramic city views. The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, with its extensive collection of carpets and rugs, is also included. In the evening, the tour visits the Flame Towers at the moment their LED lights switch on. Highland Park, known locally as Viewing Square, provides another panoramic viewpoint over Baku, the bay, and the Seaside National Park. The route concludes along Baku Boulevard, a historic promenade beside the Caspian Sea. For those selecting the private option, transportation from Upland Park by car to the Haydar Aliyev Cultural Center, a notable modern building, is included.
