Overview

This small-group day trip from Edinburgh lasts about eight hours and fifteen minutes and visits several Outlander filming locations. The tour uses a 16-seat Mercedes mini-coach and is led by an English-speaking driver-guide. The group first stops at Midhope Castle, known as Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s family home in the series. Visitors cannot enter the castle, but it is a popular photo spot. Next, the tour visits Blackness Castle, with admission included in the price. The castle was used as Fort William in the show and the group spends about one hour here. The tour then continues to Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, which also served as Wentworth Prison in Outlander. Visitors have approximately seventy-five minutes to eat lunch, explore the nearby town, or walk around the loch. After Linlithgow, the group goes to Doune Castle, with admission included in the tour price. Doune Castle appears as Castle Leoch in the series and features a tall gatehouse, a great hall, and views of the River Teith. The visit here lasts about one hour. The final stop is Culross, a well-preserved 16th-century village representing Cranesmuir in Outlander. Visitors can walk the streets, see Claire’s herb garden, and explore Culross Palace if it is open. Culross Palace is closed during winter and its admission is not included. Tickets for Doune and Blackness Castles are reserved in advance and included in the price. Midhope Castle tickets must be purchased on the tour if visiting. Food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. There is a luggage limit of 20kg per person. Children under five years old are not allowed, and those under eighteen must be accompanied by an adult.
