Overview

This six-hour partial tour of the Panama Canal departs from Flamenco Marina on the Amador Causeway in Panama City. Guests board the M/V Pacific Queen, which has both open and air-conditioned decks for comfort. The boat sails northbound, passing under the Bridge of the Americas and entering the Miraflores Locks. The vessel then moves through Miraflores Lake before reaching the Pedro Miguel Locks, where it is raised 9 meters in a single step. After exiting the locks, the tour continues past the Centennial Bridge and proceeds into the southern end of the Gaillard Cut, a key section carved through the Continental Divide where the Chagres River joins the canal. Lunch is served on board and includes unlimited sodas, water, tea, and coffee. A professional bilingual guide provides commentary throughout the trip. Guests have the opportunity to meet Captain Claudio and the Panama Canal pilot on the open bridge. The tour ends at the Gamboa Dredging Division, where participants transfer by motor coach back to Flamenco Marina.

Bridge of the Americas

This road bridge spans the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. Completed in 1962 and designed by Sverdrup & Parcel, it cost US$20 million to build. The bridge connects the North and South American continents.

3

Panama Canal

The partial transit northbound begins as the Pacific Queen enters the Miraflores Locks, then passes into Miraflores Lake, an artificial freshwater body separating Miraflores from Pedro Miguel Locks. Next, the ship goes through the Pedro Miguel Locks, where it is lifted 9 meters in one step. After exiting, you will see the Centennial Bridge crossing the canal. The tour continues into the southern end of the Gailard Cut, also called Culebra Cut, a historically and geologically significant section carved through the Continental Divide where the Chagres River flows into the canal.

4

Centennial Bridge

This major bridge was built to relieve traffic on the Bridge of the Americas and to carry the Pan-American Highway. Opened in 2004, it is the canal’s second permanent crossing. After passing under this bridge, you disembark at the Gamboa Dredging Division and board motor coaches for a 45-minute ride back to Flamenco Marina.
