Overview

Start this full-day trip by meeting your guide at Piazzale Montelungo Bus Terminal in Florence. Board a comfortable coach for a roughly two-hour drive to Pisa. Along the way, the guide shares information about the region and answers questions. Upon arrival in Pisa, the group visits the Square of Miracles, surrounded by ancient gates and green lawns. A local guide leads a walking tour here, covering the Baptistery, Monumental Graveyard, and the exterior of the Cathedral. Then, use your included skip-the-line ticket to enter Pisa Cathedral and see its Romanesque architecture, frescoes, and artworks by Nicola Pisano. The tour continues to the Leaning Tower of Pisa where the guide explains its tilt and significance. You will have free time to explore independently or climb the tower with an optional skip-the-line ticket. Next, the coach travels about 30 minutes to Lucca. A local walking guide takes the group through Lucca’s medieval streets and Renaissance walls. The tour includes visits to Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, with its origins as a 1st-century amphitheatre, and a walk along the city walls offering views over rooftops. The tour finishes at Lucca’s Cathedral of San Martino, where the guide discusses the building’s Roman-era origins. Entry to this cathedral is optional and not included. After the walking tour, there is free time to explore Lucca on your own, with an opportunity to try buccellato, a local cake. The coach returns to Florence in the early evening after about one hour on the road. This tour lasts about nine hours and includes coach transport, expert multilingual escort, local guides in Pisa and Lucca (unless the semi-independent option is selected), admission to Pisa Cathedral (except in the semi-independent option), and buccellato tasting.
