Overview

This food tour in Porto lasts about three and a half hours and focuses on tasting eight different local dishes and drinks. The tour begins at Coliseu, Porto’s largest theater, located in the city center. From there, the group visits a traditional open-air market to try fresh foods and local specialties. Along the way, participants taste a flaky Portuguese custard tart (Pastel de Nata), a tender pork sandwich called Bifana, a traditional codfish cake, Portuguese canned fish, and a secret dish chosen by the guide. Drinks included are tea or coffee, water, crisp Vinho Verde wine, local beer, and aged Port wine. The tour also includes stops at notable city landmarks such as Casa da Musica, Portugal’s first building designed solely for music events and training; a small historic urban park with various trees and sculptures; one of Porto’s lively historic districts; the double-deck metal arch bridge over the River Douro connecting Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia; and Torre dos Clerigos, the tallest bell tower in Portugal visible across the city. The guide provides information about Porto’s architecture, local life, and history throughout the walk. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included, and gratuities are optional.
