Overview

This private, customizable bus tour in Puerto Plata lasts about four hours. It begins with a visit to the municipal fruit and vegetable market where travelers see local farmers selling produce and can sample fresh fruits. Next, the tour includes a stop at a chocolate factory to watch the cocoa processing and machinery. The group then walks along the Malecon, a 7-kilometer seafront path offering views of the Atlantic Ocean. The tour continues with visits to Fortaleza San Felipe, a museum displaying historical weapons and artifacts, and the Dominican Amber Museum, where guests learn about amber and larimar and view jewelry made from these stones. The group visits Emmanuel Cigar Factory to learn about cigar making and even try rolling their own cigar. At Macorix House of Rum, guests receive a rum tasting and hear about its history. The tour also includes a stop at Umbrella Street, decorated with 178 colorful umbrellas, and Paseo de Dona Blanca, a historic hotel site dating to 1898. Lunch is served family-style at a local restaurant named As in Familia, featuring traditional Dominican dishes and cold Presidente beer. Additional stops may include Playa Costambar, a shallow, calm beach suitable for children, Parque Central Independencia, a historic city square gifted by General Luperón in 1879, and the San Felipe Cathedral, rebuilt after fire damage and an important religious site. Private transportation is provided in an air-conditioned van with wifi. Tickets to the Rum Macorix factory and Fortaleza San Felipe are included. Bottled water, soda, rum samples, lunch, and entry to the chocolate factory are part of the tour. The itinerary and starting time can be customized.
