This full-day tour lasts about 11 hours and starts with a round-trip bus ride from Québec City to Baie-Sainte-Catherine in the Charlevoix region, taking about three hours each way. On the way, passengers see landscapes along the St. Lawrence River. Once at the Saguenay - St. Lawrence Marine Park, participants choose between a whale watching cruise on a large observation boat or a Zodiac ride. The boat tour lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours and includes bilingual narration by expert naturalists. The Zodiac option includes waterproof jackets and pants and lifejackets but does not have onboard restrooms or food service. The tour offers the chance to see up to 13 different whale species. A one-hour lunch break takes place before the cruise; food is not allowed on the boats, but visitors can bring packed meals or buy a preprepared lunchbox at Baie-Sainte-Catherine if available. The tour runs rain or shine unless weather makes it unsafe. If no whales are spotted on the boat tour, a second tour is offered free of charge. Zodiac rides have age and health restrictions, and warm clothing is recommended for the river conditions. All taxes and fees are included in the price.
Fontaine de Tourny Pickup and Drive
The day begins with a pickup from the accommodation, followed by gathering the group at Fontaine de Tourny. Travelers board a coach that travels beside the St. Lawrence River en route to Baie-Sainte-Catherine in Charlevoix, an area recognized for excellent whale watching. Bilingual naturalist guides certified in the field share details about the 13 whale species found in the Saguenay - St. Lawrence Marine Park, with peak sighting months from May through October. Participants may select either observation boats or Zodiacs for the whale watching experience. If whales are not spotted, a second boat tour is provided. After the boat excursion, the coach returns to Québec City along the river scenery.
