Visitors spend about 30 minutes here viewing the tower’s detailed calligraphy and geometric decorations. Next, the tour visits the Mausoleum of Mohammed V for 15 minutes. Built between 1961 and 1971, the mausoleum contains the tombs of King Mohammed V and his family beneath a large dome with intricate marble work. After this, the group drives about 15 minutes to the Royal Palace of Rabat, constructed in the 1860s as the official residence of the Moroccan king. Visitors may view the palace exterior and gardens but are not allowed inside. Access to the Royal Palace area requires participants to carry their passports. The tour then continues to Chellah, a fortress and necropolis with Roman ruins and medieval Muslim tombs, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012. After a short drive of about 10 minutes, the tour visits the Andalusian Gardens for 30 minutes. These early 20th-century gardens include a reflecting pool, orange trees, fountains, flower beds, pavilions, pergolas, and ornate tile work. Note that the gardens are closed on Fridays.
