Overview

This shared self-guided day trip from Sofia lasts about 13 hours and includes round-trip transport by air-conditioned minivan with a driver. The trip begins with a short stop at St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia for morning views. Then, the shuttle travels to the Rila National Park and the Rila Mountains. In the morning, the shuttle drops off participants at the start of the hiking trails near the Seven Rila Lakes and the base station of the chair lift. Visitors have more than five hours to explore the Seven Rila Lakes area independently. There is an option to take the chair lift up the mountain, but the ticket is not included. In the afternoon, the shuttle takes visitors to the Rila Monastery, Bulgaria's largest Orthodox monastery, where there is more than one hour to tour the site on their own. Entrance fees, chair lift tickets, guide services, food, drinks, gratuities, and mountain rescue insurance are not included. The tour involves moderate to intensive walking, so comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing for mountain conditions are necessary. Sun cream and sunglasses are recommended. Visitors must follow the monastery’s dress code, which prohibits high heels, short skirts, trousers, and sleeveless shirts.
