The Rio Grande forms a natural border through Big Bend National Park, cutting deep canyons along its course. This full-day boat tour covers about 7 and a half hours of floating through these canyons along the international boundary. The route and type of boat - canoes, kayaks, or rafts - depend on the river’s water level on the day of the trip. Participants start in Terlingua, Texas, traveling by van to the river while learning about the Chihuahuan Desert’s geology, plants, and history. At the river, guests receive all the necessary equipment including boats, personal flotation devices, paddles, and dry bags for valuables. A safety briefing and paddling instruction are provided before setting off. The trip includes a stop on the riverbank for a picnic and swim. Guests must bring their own lunch and water bottles; coolers and water refills are provided. Alcoholic drinks in cans are permitted. After several hours floating downstream along the international boundary, the group returns to Terlingua in the late afternoon.

The tour begins in Terlingua, Texas. Participants ride in vans toward the river while learning about the cultural history, geology, plants, and animals of the Chihuahuan Desert. Upon arrival at the river, guests are outfitted with personal flotation devices and their valuables are packed in dry bags. A safety briefing and paddling instructions are given. After several hours floating on the river, the group stops on the shore for a picnic and swim. Guests must bring their own lunch and water bottles, but water refills and coolers for food storage are provided. Alcoholic beverages in cans are allowed. The float continues downstream along the international boundary before returning to Terlingua around 4:30 p.m.
