Overview

This guided walking tour lasts about 70 minutes and starts at Piazza Della Rotonda, the square in front of the Pantheon, where the guide points out one of the obelisks brought to Rome by the Romans. The group then moves inside the Pantheon, a well-preserved Ancient Roman monument initially built as a pagan temple and later converted into the Christian church Basilica of Saint Maria ad Martyres in 608 AD. During the visit, the guide explains the architectural design, focusing on the Pantheon's 43-meter-wide dome and its oculus, which lights the interior naturally. The tour also covers the building’s history, including how Pope Boniface IV ordered the transfer of martyrs' remains from Christian catacombs into the Pantheon. Inside, visitors see the tombs of Renaissance architect Raphael and several Italian kings. This small-group tour includes a live guide but does not include tips.
