Overview

This full-day bus tour lasts about 7 hours and covers many of Sal Island’s key locations with a certified local guide. The tour starts at Shark Bay in Santa Maria, where participants can see lemon sharks in their natural habitat. Then, the group visits the Salinas, a volcanic salt lake with warm, mineral-rich waters where guests can float and relax. The guide explains the lake’s medicinal properties and offers access to spa and hydromassage facilities. Next, the tour continues to Murdeira to see Buracona, a natural pool considered one of Sal’s seven wonders. When conditions allow, swimming is possible, and the natural blue eye phenomenon inside a cave can be observed. A visit to Espargos follows, where guests view Murdeira Bay’s marine reserve and Monte Leão. The fishing village of Palmeira is next, where visitors observe local fishing activities, port life, colorful colonial houses, and street art. Afterward, the group stops at Pedra de Lume, the island’s oldest village, to learn about its salt-export history and see old salt transport equipment. The tour also includes a stop at Miragem to witness the fata morgana desert water illusions, with photo opportunities provided by the guide. Santa Maria, the island’s main tourist city, is explored next with a focus on its history from salt exploitation to tourism. The tour then visits Kite Beach, known for kite surfing world championships, especially between October and March. There is a rest stop at Pedra Lume Salt Crater where guests can have lunch (optional), snacks, drinks, and access Wi-Fi. Finally, the tour returns to Espargos for a brief look at local life before concluding. Included in the tour are private transportation, hotel pickup and drop-off, liability insurance, the local certified guide, access to Shark Bay, and photos and videos taken by the guide. Lunch, entrance fees, and water shoes (recommended for Shark Bay) are not included.
