Overview

The tour begins with a pickup at the port on Admiral Staiti Street in Trapani. Participants travel by minivan for about ten minutes to the first stop, the Maria Stella salt pan in Paceco, where they see the oldest mill in Trapani, built at the end of the fifteenth century. The tour then continues to Salina Calcara in Nubia, where the guide explains the four levels of salt tanks used to transform sea water into salt and points out local birds such as flamingos, herons, and egrets. The final stop is the Culcasi salt pan, where visitors enter a 600-year-old mill that now serves as a salt museum. Here, the guide describes the salt harvesting process, historical tools, the hierarchy of salt workers, and the changes in salt production over time. Guests taste various salt crystals and the salt flower, both natural and flavored with orange, lemon, rosemary, and oregano. The tour ends with a walk along the path of the salt worker through the salt tanks, a quiet area where nature and human management combine to produce salt from sea water. The total duration is about two and a half hours. The tour includes all fees, air-conditioned transport, guide services, admission to the salt museum, and the tasting of salt products.
