by Anacortes Kayak Tours
This 3-hour sea kayak tour in the San Juan Islands begins with a brief kayaking lesson at custom-built docks in Anacortes on Fidalgo Island. After the introduction, participants paddle into Burrows Bay and generally circle Burrows Island, passing the historic Burrows Island Lighthouse and views of Rosario Strait. The tour includes opportunities to see wildlife such as harbor seals, especially during their summer pupping season, harbor porpoises in the narrow channels near Allan Island, and occasionally orca whales. Professionally trained guides provide all kayaking equipment, life jackets, and safety gear, and assist with spotting sea life and sharing information about the local area. The trip departs directly from Anacortes, avoiding ferry rides and maximizing time on the water. Single kayaks are available for an additional fee upon advance request and only for participants 18 years or older. The route offers a quieter experience since Burrows Island is less visited and off the main travel routes. Participants should bring bottled water, snacks, sun protection, weather-appropriate clothing, and shoes that can get wet.
