Overview

This full-day excursion by flight from Sharm el Sheikh to Cairo lasts about 16 to 18 hours. Participants are picked up from their hotel early in the morning, around 4 am, and flown to Cairo. Upon arrival, a guide meets the group and accompanies them throughout the day. The tour starts with a two-hour visit to either the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which houses over 100,000 artifacts and is the largest archaeological museum of ancient Egyptian art, or the Ancient Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square. The choice of museum is made during booking. After the museum visit, lunch is provided. The afternoon is spent at the Giza Plateau, where visitors see the three pyramids: Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinos. The site can be explored on foot, or visitors may choose to ride a horse or camel independently. The tour continues to the Great Sphinx, the largest and best-preserved sphinx, featuring a human head on a lion’s body, carved from a limestone hill that was a quarry for the Cheops pyramid. If time allows, the group visits the Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar, a medieval market in Old Cairo recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, or Cairo Festival City mall, a large air-conditioned shopping center with international brands, restaurants, cafés, and a large dancing fountain. Optional visits to the Papyrus Museum and the Essential Oils Factory may be included if time permits; these visits show ancient Egyptian techniques for making papyrus and essences. The day ends with a return flight to Sharm el Sheikh and transport back to the hotel. A Nile felucca boat trip is available for an additional fee if the group agrees.
