Overview

This snorkeling tour takes place at Silfra, a fissure in Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park formed by the separation of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. The fissure is known for its clear glacial water with visibility over 100 meters, fed by fresh, drinkable glacial streams that support unique aquatic life. The tour lasts about three hours and includes the use of snorkeling gear and hot chocolate after the swim. A certified PADI Divemaster or instructor guides the activity. Participants can choose between drysuit or wetsuit options, allowing members of the same group to select different suits if preferred. The guide also takes underwater photos during the snorkeling, which are included in the price. Participants meet on location and should bring appropriate outdoor clothing for Iceland’s weather. Food is not included.

Thingvellir National Park Meeting

Participants meet at Thingvellir National Park, approximately 50 km from Reykjavik. A PADI divemaster certified guide will explain the tour procedures and safety measures. Afterward, participants put on their gear and proceed to Silfra, a freshwater fissure formed by continental plates drifting apart at about 2 cm per year, where visibility extends at least 100 meters. The time spent in the water is about 40 minutes. Before leaving, the guide will prepare hot chocolate for the group. There is an option to pre-book a wetsuit on a separate listing, recommended for confident swimmers or scuba divers without certification; otherwise, a drysuit is advised. This company offers both wetsuits and drysuits so all participants can be in the same group.
