Overview

The tour begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Reykjavik, followed by a 45-minute drive to Thingvellir National Park, where Silfra fissure is located. On the way, travelers can see the park’s natural surroundings. Upon arrival, a certified PADI Divemaster or Instructor briefs participants on safety and helps with gearing up for snorkeling. This drysuit snorkeling tour lasts about 5 hours in total. You will spend 30 to 40 minutes snorkeling in Silfra, a glacial fissure known for its exceptionally clear water with visibility over 100 meters. The water flows through lava fields and is so pure it is safe to drink. Snorkeling here means navigating between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, separated by a gap of about 6 to 7 kilometers. The operator provides snorkeling equipment, and both drysuit and wetsuit options are available, allowing mixed groups to snorkel together. For the drysuit option, guests should bring their own thermal base layer and thick socks to stay warm. After snorkeling, participants walk back for about five minutes and receive hot chocolate to warm up. Underwater photos are taken throughout the snorkeling, with between 40 and 100 images captured depending on group size and skill. These photos will be available for free download a few days after the tour. The tour runs with small groups, with a maximum of six participants per guide, ensuring more personal attention.
