This Silfra wetsuit snorkeling tour takes place at the Silfra fissure in Iceland, near Reykjavik. The total duration is about three hours. Participants meet directly at the snorkeling location. At the site, each person receives a wetsuit and snorkeling equipment. A PADI Divemaster or instructor leads groups of up to six participants. The wetsuit allows snorkelers to dive underwater, which is popular with scuba divers who do not have certification for drysuit diving. Visibility in Silfra’s clear water exceeds 100 meters. Underwater photos taken during the snorkeling are included free of charge. After the activity, hot chocolate is served. Participants must be at least 12 years old, know how to swim, and be comfortable in water. Those over 65 need medical approval. Height and weight limits apply, and this information must be provided before the tour. Swimwear and a towel are required but not included. Weather-appropriate clothing is recommended, and participants should bring contact lenses or a prescription mask instead of glasses. Multiple groups may snorkel at the site simultaneously.
Meet at Snorkel Van Parking P5
After parking in P5, the group meets where the snorkel and dive vans are located. The guide will explain the schedule and what to expect during the tour. Participants put on snorkel gear and receive a safety briefing before entering Silfra. Silfra's water visibility exceeds 100 metres due to meltwater from a glacier 50 km away that travels underground to fill a canyon. Snorkeling lasts 30 to 40 minutes, followed by warming up with hot chocolate. The guide takes 40 to 100 photos during the tour, depending on group size and comfort, which are available for download after a few days. Wearing a bathing suit under the wetsuit is required, and thick socks are recommended to keep feet warm.
