by Tribe Tours
This 4-hour day trip in Singapore explores disappearing traditional trades. The tour starts in Chinatown with a 45-minute visit to see two old crafts: the making of sachima, a handmade Asian snack similar to granola bars, and the preparation of cuttlefish by a local hawker. Next, the group spends 45 minutes on Sago Street, also called the Street of the Dead, where they enter a generations-old joss and prayer goods shop on Banda Street and a Chinese medicine shophouse known since the early 1900s for its special medicated oils. The final 45 minutes take place at one of Singapore’s oldest remaining traditional bakeries, where bread is made using old-fashioned methods. Snacks are included during the tour. A minimum of four participants is required for the tour to start.
