Overview

This guided tour in Rome lasts about five hours and starts just outside St. Peter's Square. The group begins by entering St. Peter's Basilica early, avoiding most crowds, then climbs to the top of the dome by elevator and stairs (231 steps), offering wide views over the Vatican and the city. After the climb, there is free time to explore the Basilica’s main features, including the Holy Door, Michelangelo's Pietà, and Bernini's Baldacchino. Next, the tour continues with a walk through the Pinecone Courtyard where the Sphere within a Sphere sculpture stands. Then the guide leads the group through the Vatican Museums, skipping the main lines. Visitors see the Candelabra Gallery, Gallery of the Tapestries, and Gallery of Maps, along with important sculptures in the Pio-Clementino Museum such as Laocoön and His Sons and the Belvedere Torso. The tour also includes the Raphael Rooms, where frescoes like The School of Athens are explained. The final stop is the Sistine Chapel, where participants view Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes and The Last Judgement. Speaking inside the chapel is not allowed, but the guide will provide an introduction beforehand and hand out a map to help identify the artworks. The tour size is limited to 20 people, and headsets are provided if six or more guests join. The guide speaks English and leads the group using professional equipment. Hotel pickup and food are not included.
